There's a steady stream of news ringing alarm bells about our nation's debt problem. Some debt is necessary but how much is too much? If your debt is stressing you out, it's time to make a change.

No shame, judgement or unsolicited advice here! In the interest of being helpful, we've got solutions to tackling debt. Here are 3 tools to help you manage your finances:

Printable budgets

Psychology says that hand written goals resonate. Online debt free communities are hugely popular. These communities generously help other people achieve their debt free goals too. Not only is it helpful to follow along online for great ideas, but they also offer practical tools. Debt Free Family Tree for example (https://dffamilytree.blogspot.com) has a page of 'printables' for free, everything from budgets, to menus, to no spend trackers. If you are serious about reducing debt, write down your goals and start tracking!

Make sure you are getting the best deal possible on the items you're already buying. Our clients have many perks including an exclusive offer just for them. As a thank you for their loyalty we gift them a free app called For Me. It offers deep discounts on products you purchase regularly, available throughout North America. The app is geo-specific, which means restaurants, products and services are discounted to you where ever you are! If you are going to shop, get the best deal!

Credit tracker

Get technology working for you! We have a free app available at the app store called MOPOLO. Download the app, indicated Patricia Southwell as the mortgage agent, and put in your information. Among the many features, this app allows you to see your credit score without having a hit on your bureau. A strong credit score buys you the best rates and features when shopping for a mortgage. Tracking your score regularly also cues you to changes in your credit that may indicate identity theft. Knowing your score lets you gauge the best time to buy or refinance. Don't leave this to chance, be an informed consumer!

Don't go it alone! Talking to a trusted advisor is always a good start. Recent mortgage changes are such that your debt is anchoring you more than ever. We have coached many of our clients to achieve stronger credit scores and better interest rates. Reduced debt translates to more money in your pocket and a sound sleep!
